Link: Comcast.net News - World - UN Chief: Violence Against Women Surges.
The linked article adds to the continuing evidence (to me) that despite an increase in awareness and (supposed) aid to (poor) women throughout the world today,
Truly, over the years, as a 'power to woman' woman myself, I was watching and expecting that such things would become more and more a thing of the past.
Not happening.
What is happening instead is that women who really need the help and aid of other women in big money and big name organizations are failing women, failing them terribly. The greatest evidence of this failiure is a look at what kind of aid is being offered to women in these poor nations. It is abortion and contraceptives. It is not medication for their already born children, it is not medical attention for the women themselves, it is not more opportunity for the women to rise out of poverty or help of any other kind. In fact, this article states clearly that violence against women is on the rise, and this at a time in history where we have so many resources available to us as well as an organization such as the UN which is supposed to exist to ensure people can live in peace. Not women, though, it seems, because they are getting the short end no matter the progress we have made as a people and a nation. My personal view as well as personal beef is that there is a smokescreen that is kept in place by the media concerning aid to women. This smokescreen covers the truth about how organizations that claim to do for women are not. They, in fact, profit from the sale of things like condoms and abortions. No, the poor women do not pay, but the government they get them through pays whoever is supplying these wares. It saddens and angers me that organizations come straight into a country where women and girls are being raped and sold into sexual slavery and ignore what is happening and focus only on their business of pushing abortion and contraceptives. It also saddens and angers me that these organizations mostly are from the USA and as such represent the USA, which is me, and I don't support their agenda in any way shape or form.
